a place to
be with jesus

OUR MISSION

In these hectic, uncertain, and often frenzied days, Christians long for a place to draw near to Jesus, where He can impart to them His peace.  Evergreen Center offers a unique place and way to do that. In a setting that is beautiful, both naturally and spiritually, Jesus-seekers find a place of rest in Him that their souls crave.

Our mission could be described as providing a place where it is easier to know Jesus better. This includes our commitment to create an environment that is conducive to fulfilling that God-hunger.

Who We Are

There are several aspects to the vision of Evergreen Center, but they all are related to the overarching purpose: to know Jesus, and from that knowledge to make Him known. Evergreen Center exists as a place where it is easier to draw closer to Jesus.  Within that purpose, Evergreen maintains the following activities for the sake of God’s Kingdom:
1. Discipleship Program
  • This is a full-time residential training program for potential ministers and missionaries, conducted continually since 2008.
  • The training is intensely practical as well as spiritual. All interns must participate in outreach ministries, such as meetings at the Waushara County Jail, visiting shut-ins, helping seniors with work projects, etc.
  • Our emphasis is focused on serving in Third World countries as the Lord leads, but we also have graduates serving in churches and ministries in the United States. The Director of the Program, Rev. Douglas Detert, has traveled frequently to the Far East and maintains contact with missionaries there who welcome our graduates to assist them.
  • The training is meant to foster a life of being continually filled with the Holy Spirit, expressed by love-in-action (mercy).
2. Prayer Center
  • Without prayer, the work of God slips easily into professionalism. Prayer services at Evergreen Center are regular, frequent, and meaningful.
  • All interns are required to attend these services and are trained to pray and to intercede effectively.
3. Retreat Center
  • Since 1998, Evergreen has sponsored retreats that are open to the public with the goal of fulfilling the desire that many Christians have for a deeper walk with the Lord Jesus. The Annual Fall Retreat is generally scheduled the 3rd week-end of September.
4. Church
  • Evergreen is the church home for a local congregation of approximately 50 people. By God’s grace He adds yearly to this group.
  • The Church has become a venue for our interns to practice the ministerial skills they learn in the classroom. They not only serve as Sunday School teachers, but also deliver the main message at least once per term to the congregation during a Sunday Morning Worship Service.
In summary, to quote the Evangelist John Wesley, “the world is my parish”. Our vision focuses on the world’s poor and needy, knowing that the Bible places special emphasis on meeting the needs of the destitute, the hungry, and the neglected. Because we teach much on the subject of What the Bible Teaches About Mercy, we are drawn to need, and all our ministry reflects that emphasis.

Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

(As adopted by the National Association of Evangelicals.)

Our History

With roots in the legacy of the Zion Faith Homes, the Evergreen Center sprung out of a group of believers who faithfully sought the Lord together on a regular basis, first in one another's homes, and then in rented facilities.  In 1998, Evergreen Center was incorporated, and the goal of starting a live-in program, church, and retreat center led to the purchase of the current property - consisting of 105 acres - in 2006.  The discipleship program was officially launched in Spring of 2008, and since then, the Lord has been faithful to send us young men and women to be ministered to and trained for His glory.
