Pastor Doug Detert graduated from Harvard College in 1964 with a degree of Bachelor of Arts cum laude in General Studies, with a Concentration in Mathematics. He enrolled in Central Bible College in the fall of that year and took courses at the Masters of Theology level for one year. In 1965 he married Mildred Bombara, and together they ministered for 18 months at Brooklyn Teen Challenge in New York City. From 1967 to 1996 Doug and Millie trained and served at the Zion Faith Homes in Zion, Illinois. He was ordained as a minister there in 1973.
In June 1996 they left the Faith Homes and moved to their present home in Wautoma, Wisconsin; subsequently a congregation emerged out of Bible studies that Doug was conducting in the area. In 1998 the congregation obtained 501(c)(3) status as a non-profit religious corporation under the name of Evergreen Center. Evergreen held its first retreat in 1999. Eventually, Doug agreed to become Pastor of the newly formed church. The corporation purchased its present property in 2006. With the board’s backing, Doug pioneered the Discipleship Program, whose first class graduated in 2009. During his time at Evergreen Center, Rev. Detert has served as Founder, President, Pastor, and Teacher. Though retired, he continues to teach the morning Bible study times and occasionally preach. In addition to his responsibilities at Evergreen Center, Pastor Doug has traveled frequently to the Far East, primarily to Myanmar and India. The connections he developed opened the door for graduates of the Discipleship Program to become missionaries in those countries. |
